Samsung has unveiled an Ultra Slim OLED panel for laptops. The new panel will offer greater design freedom and improved portability for OEMs while maintaining core performance capabilities. The company will showcase the technology at Computex 2026 in Taipei, scheduled from June 2 to 5.
Samsung aims for slimmer laptops with advanced OLED technology
At this year’s Computex exhibition, Samsung will present a bunch of its latest OLED technologies for laptops. One key attraction is the new Ultra Slim panel, which is currently under development. The panel features a thickness reduction of more than 20% at the module’s outer edge compared to products currently in mass production.
To achieve the slimmer design, Samsung reduced the thickness (more than 30%) of the Thin Film Transistor (TFT) substrate glass and the encapsulation glass. The company also fixed panel warping issues that can occur when displays become thinner through its proprietary processes.
Despite the slimmer panel, Samsung has maintained the core OLED technology. The company says that laptops equipped with this panel can achieve up to the True Black 1000 rating in VESA’s ‘DisplayHDR certification. This means the display can produce black levels of 0.0005 nits or less while hitting a peak brightness of 1,000 nits.
The OLED panel supports refresh rates ranging from 165Hz to 240Hz. As such, gamers can enjoy smoother gameplay during fast-paced action scenes. It can achieve a VESA ClearMR rating of up to 11,000, meaning there are 110 times more clear pixels than blurry pixels during video playback. This is a huge advantage over conventional LCD displays, which achieve a maximum rating of 7,000.
In addition, Samsung will showcase several QD-OLED panels ranging from 8.8 inches to 49 inches. Among them is a new monitor panel that combines 4K resolution with a 360Hz refresh rate, a first for the industry. Visitors will be able to experience the performance of the latest OLED and QD-OLED panels through different gaming demonstrations.
