Samsung Unveils 14-Meter Onyx Cinema LED for Large Format Theaters

Samsung continues to evolve its Onyx cinema LED lineup in the entertainment space. The company has unveiled a new 14-meter standard size for premium large format theaters at CinemaCon 2026. The display offers the same picture quality and reliability as the core Onyx platform.
The new Onyx offers premium cinema experiences
Samsung’s Onyx is an LED screen that offers deeper blacks, richer colors, and better contrast. Last year, the company launched 5-meter and 10-meter versions for boutique theaters and premium auditoriums, respectively. It has now brought a 14-meter screen for a larger theater for more immersive viewing and better use of space.
Samsung says the new model retains the same core Onyx experience, including support for up to 4K resolution at 120Hz and incredible picture quality. However, it has been tailored for large format theaters with two key distinctions. The first is a 3.3mm pixel pitch that ensures sharp and consistent image quality on a larger screen. The second is the support for flexible scaling, so the display can expand up to 20 meters without compromising presentation quality.
Furthermore, Onyx supports both 2.39:1 (scope) and 1.85:1 (flat) aspect ratios. It is the world’s first Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI)-certified cinema display for theatrical shows. We can experience peak brightness up to 300 nits, significantly brighter than conventional cinema standards. Thanks to the complete color volume and true black levels, the system offers greater detail in dark scenes.
The Onyx platform is not just for movie screenings but also for other alternative content, including live sports, concerts, and more. Thanks to consistent brightness and image quality across the entire screen, you can enjoy a uniform viewing experience (regardless of seating position). It also plays nicely with Dolby and GDC media servers, making it easier for theaters to manage content.
“People go to premium theaters for something they cannot recreate at home,” said Hyoung Jae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “That raises the bar for every part of the auditorium, starting with the screen. Samsung’s new 14-meter Onyx gives exhibitors a way to bring the premium experience to larger auditoriums, helping turn moviegoing into a destination again.”
