Last year, Meta introduced Instagram for TV so you can enjoy Reels from your favorite creators on the big screen. However, the company initially limited the experience to Amazon Fire TVs and later brought it to Google TVs. Thankfully, it has now expanded the availability to Samsung TVs, though only in the United States.
Meta brings Instagram to Samsung Smart TVs
Instagram for TV is now available on Samsung Smart TV models from 2020 and later. The TV app groups Reels into channels depending on your interests. You can find content across categories such as new music, sports highlights, hidden travel gems, trending moments, and more. This lets you discover content easily on the large screen.
Meta says Instagram for TV offers a shared experience with family and friends. To improve group viewing, the company is testing a bunch of new features. These include interest-based channels that make it easier to find videos for everyone in the room.
Another feature is the ability to cast Reels right from smartphones to TVs. You can even cast videos from the Saved tab to share favorite content with others. As of now, this feature is available on Google TV and Amazon Fire TV devices. Meta has not announced support for Samsung TVs yet.
Thanks to Instagram Stories on TV, you can view updates from friends and creators without crowding around a phone. In addition, the company is experimenting with a dedicated section for horizontal videos. This feature could improve the viewing experience for content designed for the TV screen.
Meta is also testing new formats to improve the Instagram experience on TV. It plans to bring longer-form creator videos, episodic content, and live TV soon. “We’re working closely with creators to understand what works best on TV and how these experiences can complement the ways people already use Instagram,” said the company.
