Samsung has started rolling out the December 2024 security patch to the Galaxy S24 series. The latest security update is currently available for the flagship trio in South Korea. A global rollout covering the devices in the US and other regions should begin soon.
The Galaxy S24 series gets the December 2024 security update
After a long wait, Samsung recently released the One UI 7 beta update for the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra. The beta programs are available for users in the UK, the US, China, Germany, India, Poland, and South Korea. Users in the rest of the world must wait until the stable release in the first quarter of 2025. Samsung plans to roll out the update following the Galaxy S25 launch.
In the meantime, it will push new security patches, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to the devices. The December 2024 SMR, which rolled out to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 last week, is now available for the Galaxy S24 trio, starting in Samsung’s home country. The company will soon release the update in other markets.
As expected, the latest update for the Galaxy S24 series brings nothing more than this month’s security fixes. The changelog confirms Samsung is only rolling out security patches. The update for the base model bears the firmware build number S921NKSS5AXKA and weighs around 285MB. It’s S928NKSS4AXKA for the Ultra, which is getting a 445MB update.
Regardless of the size, the changelog is the same. This month’s SMR addresses 44 security vulnerabilities, at least six of which are critical Android OS patches. The update also contains fixes for security flaws in Samsung DeX, SmartSwitch, Settings, and a bunch of Exynos chips. Samsung will soon roll out these fixes to more Galaxy devices worldwide. The company will also gradually expand the One UI 7 beta program to more devices.
