Rumors are swirling that Samsung will make changes to its upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup. Unlike previous generations, where the Plus model was part of the trio, it will reportedly be replaced by the Edge model in the 2026 flagship series. A fresh report now claims that the company has begun preparing for the mass production of components for the S26 Edge.

Samsung may shake up its 2026 Galaxy S flagship lineup

While Samsung is seeing a boost in sales for its latest Galaxy S25 series, the Plus variant remains the least-selling model. During the pre-order period in the company’s home country, the S25+ accounted for just 22% of total sales — the Ultra led the chart with a 52% share, followed by the base model with 26%. This poor response could be one of the reasons Samsung is ditching the Plus model.

In May 2025, Samsung unveiled its first ultra-slim flagship, the Galaxy S25 Edge, three months after the launch of the regular Galaxy S25 trio. The Edge model quickly gained buyers’ attention thanks to its incredibly thin and lighter profile. Furthermore, it features the same large screen as the Plus model, but with a powerful 200MP main camera.

Samsung now sees its Edge model as a solid replacement for the Plus. The upcoming Galaxy S26 series will likely include Basic, Edge, and Ultra models. According to a report from ETNews, Samsung has requested its partners to prepare components for the Edge model so it can begin timely mass production to include in the flagship series.

As for the Plus model, the publication says Samsung has scrapped its development and production plans, suggesting its discontinuation. However, there is another twist in the lineup — evidence suggests there may not be a standard Galaxy S26 at all. Instead, Samsung may launch a Galaxy S26 Pro, shaking up the naming scheme. We will learn more about it in the coming months.
