Samsung Prepares Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 for 2026 Launch

Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025), a modest refresh of last year’s model. Now, the company seems to be gearing up for a true successor, reportedly called the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. It’s expected to debut in mid-2026 alongside the Galaxy Watch 9 series.

Samsung is working on the “real” Galaxy Watch Ultra 2

Last year’s Galaxy Watch Ultra was Samsung’s first Ultra-branded smartwatch. It was expected to introduce a successor this year, but the company chose to re-launch the same device with just one meaningful hardware upgrade. The 2025 Ultra has 64GB of storage, double the 32GB available on the original model. The rest of the hardware remains unchanged.

In fact, the two models are so similar that they carry the same model number (SM-L705). They also receive the same updates, though the 2025 version shipped with One UI 8 Watch out of the box, while the 2024 Ultra picked up the Wear OS 6-based update a few months ago.

Nonetheless, Samsung is now working on what should be an upgraded Ultra smartwatch. According to a new report from Galaxy Club, the upcoming high-end wearable is internally referred to as the Galaxy Watch 9 Ultra. Because the original model was internally labeled the Watch 7 Ultra and launched as the Galaxy Watch Ultra, the new model could debut as the Watch Ultra 2.

Unfortunately, we have no other information at this time. Samsung’s 2026 smartwatch lineup is still completely under wraps, so it’s unclear what upgrades are in store. It shouldn’t be long before leaks start surfacing, though. Samsung must have already finalized the key specs and design and should soon begin obtaining regulatory approvals. It will be interesting to see whether the company will launch a Classic model next year. We will keep you posted.
