Samsung’s Galaxy AI has been playing a key role in strengthening demand for Galaxy devices. The Korean firm expects that its AI technology will reach 400 million Galaxy devices this year, double the number from last year (200 million). However, the company has yet to decide whether all AI features will remain free next year or move some behind a paywall.

400 million Galaxy devices to feature AI by the end of 2025

Introduced with the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung’s Galaxy AI features are making their way to a wide range of Galaxy devices. They will now expand to the latest Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Flip 7 FE. Later this year, the company’s first Tri-Fold and XR headset will also debut with several AI tools.

At a press conference, Samsung Electronics President Roh Tae-moon said, “Last year, I said that we would install Galaxy AI in 200 million devices, and this year, we will expand it to more than 400 million devices, which is double that.” Roh further said that the company is expanding Galaxy AI to older Galaxy devices based on hardware specifications.

Samsung is pushing some AI features from its Galaxy AI suite to previous-generation devices so that a large number of users can benefit from them. Earlier this year, with the Galaxy A lineup, it even introduced Awesome Intelligence — a branding term for a specific set of AI features from Galaxy AI. Basically, Samsung aims to offer all Galaxy users — whether using new or older devices — AI features that make everyday tasks easier than ever.

President Roh confirmed that Galaxy AI will remain free until the end of 2025. Speaking about whether Galaxy AI will remain free beyond that, he noted that the company can not decide on paid services alone and would need to hold discussions, likely referring to its partners. It will be interesting to see if the company will continue offering all of its AI features for free or include its more powerful tools in a paid plan. More details should emerge in the coming months.
