There’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding whether Samsung’s Galaxy AI will remain free or become paid next year. Last week, a tipster claimed that Samsung may make its cutting-edge AI suite permanently free. However, a fresh report suggests the company has not yet decided whether to monetize Galaxy AI. It may take a final decision later this year.

Samsung has yet to decide if Galaxy AI will be free or paid

Introduced with the Galaxy S24 series last year, the Galaxy AI suite includes a bunch of powerful tools such as Generative Edit, Live Translate, and Writing Assist. From the beginning, Samsung made it clear that it plans to put its AI suite behind a paywall next year. The company even included the phrase “Galaxy AI features by Samsung are free through 2025” in the product page for the newly released Galaxy S25 Edge.

However, a few days ago, a notable tipster claimed that Galaxy AI will remain permanently free for Galaxy users. While the company has not confirmed or denied these claims, a Samsung official recently said, “Nothing has been decided yet.” Previously, a Samsung executive said, “We will decide after comprehensively considering customer demands and business conditions.”

As Galaxy AI features are one of the key selling points for its Galaxy S devices, Samsung is unlikely to place all of them behind a paywall. It’s possible that Samsung will introduce some powerful features as part of paid plans while offering basic tools for free. Things should become clearer at the upcoming summer Galaxy Unpacked event, which could happen on July 9 in New York City.

Industry analysts expect Samsung to formalize its plans for paid Galaxy AI services at the event. Meanwhile, Samsung is expected to bundle a six-month free subscription to Gemini Advanced with its new foldable devices. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Flip 7 FE should all break cover next month.
