Samsung has paused the One UI 6.1.1 rollout for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This comes after users who installed the update reported a pesky zoom camera issue. Photos captured at certain zoom levels produced weird ghosting effects. The company might resume the rollout after addressing the problem in the coming days.
Galaxy S23 Ultra’s One UI 6.1.1 update halted temporarily due to bugs
Samsung started pushing One UI 6.1.1 to the Galaxy S23 series last week, with Korean users getting the update first. A few days ago, the update expanded globally, including the US. As more S23 Ultra users installed the new version, a strange camera problem began to surface. Users noticed blurry ghosting effects on photos captured between 16x and 19.9x magnification.
Other magnification levels were unaffected, while the issue didn’t exist on the Galaxy S23 and S23+. Since the affected zoom range isn’t commonly used, most S23 Ultra users didn’t notice the bug until they came across the reports. After widespread complaints, Samsung decided to temporarily halt the One UI 6.1.1 update for the Ultra model to fix the problem.
If you haven’t already installed the update, wait a few days for Samsung to resume the rollout. Those who updated might receive a patch later. Meanwhile, you can try this temporary workaround: minimize Intelligent Optimization in camera settings. Open the camera app, go to Settings (tap the gear icon on the top toolbar), select Intelligent Optimization, and set it to Minimum.
Samsung hasn’t revealed when the One UI 6.1.1 rollout for the Galaxy S23 Ultra will resume, or when the hotfix will roll out to users who have updated. Hopefully, it won’t take long. Maybe the company will address the issue with the September security patch, which didn’t arrive with the One UI update. We will let you know when we have more information.
