Samsung Officially Ends Software Support for Galaxy S20 Series

by | Apr 8, 2025 | Galaxy S, News

A few days ago, Samsung rolled out the March security patch for the Galaxy S20 series. At that time, we said, “This could even be the last update for the lineup.” We weren’t wrong, as the company has officially ended software support for the 2020 flagships. These phones are no longer eligible for updates.

Samsung will no longer push software updates to the Galaxy S20 series

Launched in early 2020, the Galaxy S20 series recently completed five years in the market. Samsung’s software support policy warranted three major OS updates and five years of security patches to these phones, and the company delivered on that promise — updating them from Android 10 to Android 13. It has now duly removed the Galaxy S20 lineup from its official support list.

While the March update will gradually reach the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra (both LTE and 5G versions) worldwide in the coming days, these phones will not receive any other updates beyond that. Well, we have seen Samsung push some critical security fixes to Galaxy devices 2-3 years after it ends support in the past, so we can’t rule out that possibility. But the 2020 flagship lineup is no longer guaranteed an update.

Note that the Galaxy S20 FE is still eligible for software support and new updates. The Fan Edition model launched in September 2020 and is covered under the same support policy. So, it’ll receive security patches at least until September of this year. Feature updates have ended, as the phone shipped with Android 10 and received updates up to Android 13.

If you are using any of these phones, it’s high time you upgrade to a newer model. Samsung currently offers a flat $200 discount on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, dropping it to $1,099. The base Galaxy S25 is eligible for a $40 discount, while you get a free storage upgrade with the S25+ — 512GB variant at the price of 256GB. If you pick the Galaxy S24 FE, it’s selling at $649.
