Samsung Launches Galaxy Quantum 5 with Quantum Security Chip

Samsung has launched a new premium mid-range phone, the Galaxy Quantum 5. It’s a rebranded and more secure version of the Galaxy A55 — it features a quantum cryptography security chip. The device is developed in collaboration with South Korean wireless carrier SK Telecom and is only available through the carrier in the country. Samsung won’t sell it anywhere else.

Galaxy Quantum 5 launches in South Korea with advanced security

The Galaxy Quantum 5 is the Galaxy A55 at its core. However, the addition of a quantum cryptography security chip makes it more secure. Samsung has equipped the phone with the S2Q000 Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chip from ID Quantique. Coupled with Samsung Knox, the chip offers enhanced security when using banking and payment apps.

The rest of the package is unchanged from the Galaxy A55 that Samsung sells in most other markets, but not in the US. The Galaxy Quantum 5 sports a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ support. It boasts an under-display fingerprint scanner, Gorilla Glass Victus+ screen protection, an aluminum frame, and an IP67 rating.

The phone is powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos 1480 4nm processor with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The company offers a 50MP primary rear camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens, a 5MP macro camera, and a 32MP selfie shooter. A 5,000mAh battery fuels the phone with 25W wired charging support. The package also includes Android 14, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6, and NFC.

Priced at KRW 618,200 (approx. $465), Samsung sells the Galaxy Quantum 5 in Awesome Ice Blue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy colors. It is available to purchase from the T Direct Shop online mall. SK Telecom is offering exclusive benefits, including freebies, until September 3. Samsung is unlikely to bring the phone to global markets as it already sells the Galaxy A55 with identical specs.
