Galaxy Z TriFold 2 Could Be Much Thinner and Lighter

Samsung has been doubling down on thinness when it comes to foldables, especially in recent releases. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 (review) launched with a significantly thinner build compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. In numbers, that’s 8.9mm and 12.1mm when folded, respectively.
Then we saw the Galaxy Z TriFold (review), which measures just 12.9mm when folded and as thin as 3.9mm when unfolded. That was a notable leap, and things seem to be moving in the same direction as Samsung prepares a second-generation Galaxy Z TriFold.
Samsung is developing a new hinge solution so future foldables can be thinner
Supply chain reports from Korea suggest Samsung is working on a new hinge for the second-generation of Galaxy Z TriFold. Put simply, the company is developing an entirely new hinge solution so the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is lighter and thinner.
Among the other takeaways, here’s a quick one. Those who couldn’t buy the Galaxy Z TriFold may finally have something to look forward to, even if it’s still early. Right now, the Galaxy Z TriFold is only available to buy at select Experience Stores in the US, and it sold out in barely five minutes the last time it went on sale.
And since Samsung is developing a completely new hinge solution, future Galaxy Z Fold models are likely to benefit as well. As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 marked a significant leap over its predecessors, but Samsung clearly isn’t slowing down.
With competition heating up and its North American foldable position under threat, it makes sense for the company to keep pushing innovation. A refined hinge should translate into a better overall product, and hopefully Samsung will bring the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 to more markets this time.
