Samsung Find May Soon Get Satellite-Based Location Sharing

Samsung appears to be preparing an update for its Find app to make the platform useful for users in remote areas. The company may allow users to share their location with friends or family members via satellite. This feature is currently hidden within the latest version of the app, so you can’t experience it right away.

Samsung is reportedly testing satellite mode in its Find app

Samsung recently updated its Find app to version 1.8.00.16, adding Lost Mode for phones and tablets. The update improves the approval process for location sharing in the People tab. It also brings enhancements to map search and better usability on large screens. It looks like the company is also testing a new feature internally within the same build.

According to tipster ThatJoshGuy (via Android Authority), the latest version of Samsung Find features a satellite mode page. While the page is not live for the public yet, the description suggests how it might work. When you turn on satellite mode, the app automatically shares your location every 15 minutes. That means even in areas without standard network coverage, your loved ones will still know where you are.

If automatic sharing fails, the app may show a manual fallback option, allowing users to send their location once. This is particularly helpful in cases of weak satellite connectivity, as the user’s location can still be shared. While the tipster failed to explore the feature fully, it suggests that Samsung is working to make its Find app functional beyond standard network coverage.

For the uninitiated, the Samsung Find app lets you share your location with family, contacts, and other Samsung account users. This feature not only helps you keep track of individuals but also assists in locating Galaxy devices and SmartTags.
