Samsung led Europe’s smartphone market in the first quarter of 2026 (Q1 2026), according to data from Omdia. It shipped 12.6 million Galaxy devices and captured a 38% market share. This marked one of the company’s strongest starts in recent years.
Samsung holds strong lead in Europe with solid Galaxy A series demand
Samsung stayed ahead even though some of its key phone launches came later than expected. The delayed release of the Galaxy S26 series, Galaxy A37, and Galaxy A57 did not hurt sales. Samsung saw strong demand for its lower-priced phones, such as Galaxy A16 4G. These devices helped the company maintain steady growth and reach more buyers.

The wider European smartphone market grew slightly to around 33 million units in the quarter. Demand remained stable despite rising costs and supply concerns. Samsung benefited from this trend and used pricing and distribution strategies to stay ahead of its rivals in a competitive environment.
Apple came in second place with a 26% market share. Its iPhone 17 series sold well and helped boost shipments compared to last year. However, it wasn’t enough to catch Samsung, which continued to lead across both premium and budget categories.
Xiaomi ranked third but saw shipments fall due to supply issues. Still, its high-end models remained popular. Motorola and OPPO showed steady growth, helped by a stronger presence in countries like Spain, France, and Poland, where competition is increasing.
Analysts at Omdia say the market may slow down later this year due to rising costs and supply limits. Even so, Samsung’s wide range of devices and balanced strategy could help it stay strong as conditions become more uncertain.
