Samsung is expected to hold its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9. There’s no doubt that the much-anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7 smartphone will take center stage. However, recent developments surrounding the device’s stylus capabilities have raised concerns. A fresh leak recently suggests Samsung has been facing issues with the digitizer-free S Pen and has stopped production.

Samsung reportedly faces S Pen setback ahead of Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch

There’s chatter that Samsung may not implement an S Pen digitizer in its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7. Instead, the company has been developing a new S Pen that can read input without depending on a digitizer. This approach is part of its ambition to make thinner and lighter foldables. Removing the digitizer, which detects S Pen input, from the display could be one of the key steps toward making a sleeker design.

However, noted tipster @PandaFlashPro recently claimed that Samsung is facing some issues with an unknown S Pen and has stopped production. They added, “I’m not sure if it’s the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 New S-Pen or any other New S-Pen.” If the product in question is the redesigned S Pen built for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, it could force the company to delay its launch.

Well, the foldable should still go official next month, but its S Pen (an optional accessory) may see a delayed market introduction. That said, there’s also the possibility that Samsung’s digitizer-free S Pen remains a longer-term project for future Galaxy Fold models. In that case, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 should feature a display with a digitizer. We shall find out soon — in just over two weeks.

Meanwhile, Samsung may follow the same route as the Galaxy Fold lineup for its Galaxy Ultra flagships. The company may remove the built-in S Pen slot as well as implement a digitizer-free display starting with the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
