Samsung might be bringing back something many budget phone buyers have missed: a charger in the box. According to a new leak, the upcoming Galaxy A17 5G will include a charging adapter in its retail packaging for the Indian market. This follows an earlier leak that hinted at the same for select other markets. The device may go official soon.

Samsung’s Galaxy A17 5G could ship with a charger in the box in some regions

A few days ago, Samsung listed the Galaxy A17 5G on its official website in Ireland. Despite no announcement from the company, the listing remains live, leading to confusion among fans. The phone is not yet available anywhere else, though an official introduction appears close.

Meanwhile, tipster @yabhishekhd on X claims that Samsung will include a charger in the Galaxy A17 5G’s retail box in India. The phone supports 25W wired charging, and the company will offer a 25W power brick in the box. The tipster shared an image of what appears to be promotional material for the device. A similar image was previously leaked, showing off this possibility.

Interestingly, the aforementioned European listing says Galaxy A17 5G buyers won’t get an in-box charger. Samsung will only provide a charging cable in the retail box. This points to a regional strategy, with Samsung likely including an adapter only in markets where competitive pressure makes it worthwhile.

Nonetheless, it’s a notable shift in Samsung’s policy, as it has long stopped bundling chargers with new smartphones to reduce e-waste and costs. If this leak holds true, the Galaxy A17 5G could be one of the few recent Samsung smartphones to reverse the no-charger trend, at least in select regions. We’ll know for sure once the company officially announces the device in the coming days.
