In the coming months, Samsung will likely take the wraps off three foldables: the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Wide Fold, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. But in today’s news, the company has started selling Re-Newed units of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7.

To answer the first question, these Certified Re-Newed devices are serviced by Samsung specialists and repaired with 100% genuine parts, including a new certified battery. They also come with a one-year warranty, Samsung says. Additionally, this helps reduce smartphone waste and promotes a circular economy.

Should you really buy the Re-Newed Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Flip 7?

But should you splurge on a certified Re-Newed phone or go for a brand-new one? Pricing matters here. Samsung’s certified Re-Newed units of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 cost $1,699 and $939, respectively. Below, you can check the prices for each storage tier.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 (Certified Re-Newed)

  • 256GB: $1,699
  • 512GB: $1,749
  • 1TB: $1,879

Galaxy Z Flip 7 (Certified Re-Newed)

  • 256GB: $939
  • 512GB: $989

So, how much do brand-new units cost? Right now, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 costs $1,599 (with a $400 discount) and Galaxy Z Flip 7 comes at $899 (with a $200 discount). That means you’re actually paying more for the certified Re-Newed units.

There have been cases in the past where Re-Newed phones were much cheaper, and it made a lot more sense to pick one up. Right now, though, that’s not really the case, which is a bit odd, to say the least.

All things considered, you’re better off going for the new models, unless Samsung raises prices again. And if you’re waiting for the next generation of foldables, they should arrive in the coming months, and our mystery box sign-ups are now live. As usual, we’ll have a bunch of gifts in every package and at zero cost for you.
