Samsung Boosts Phishing App Risk Alert System in One UI 9

Samsung continues to improve security to protect Galaxy users from online threats. The company is now boosting its Phishing App Risk Alert system to block the execution of a malicious app that is already installed. It will introduce the new security capability in the upcoming One UI 9.
Samsung’s new security feature blocks malicious apps from running
Samsung already prevents phishing apps from being installed on Galaxy devices. This protects users from apps that steal personal information, financial credentials, and other sensitive data. The company cooperates with the National Police Agency, which provides information on apps linked to fraud. It introduced this protection to Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 and later.
But what if a malicious app manages to get installed before the system identifies it as a threat? Samsung now aims to fix this security gap. “The Phishing App Risk Alert will be further enhanced to provide a function that goes beyond blocking the installation of phishing apps to blocking the execution of an already installed app if it is identified as a malicious app,” said the company.
The system will now check Galaxy Store reputation data when a user installs an app to identify potential phishing apps. If it finds a malicious app, it will immediately block it from running. Samsung will also alert users about apps installed shortly after a suspected voice phishing call or through remote access. If you try to launch such an app, the system will recommend deleting it.
Samsung said it will ship the upgraded Phishing App Risk Alert system in One UI 9 with new smartphones in the second half of 2026. This suggests the upcoming Galaxy foldable smartphones, expected to debut on July 22, could be the first devices to get the improved security system. The company should eventually roll out the feature to other eligible Galaxy devices via the One UI 9 update.
