While millions of Galaxy users are still waiting for One UI 7, Samsung is already setting the stage for One UI 8. An internal test build has surfaced on the company’s Remote Test Lab, and it’s generating buzz in the community. Enthusiasts have extracted and sideloaded the unofficial build onto various Galaxy devices, including some budget models. At the same time, Samsung’s official moderators have begun discussing what users can expect from One UI 8.

Samsung moderators talk about One UI 8 even as the company grapples with One UI 7 issues

Samsung is rumored to introduce One UI 8 in July this year, shipping the Android 16 update out of the box on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. The new version recently appeared running on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 on Samsung’s Remote Test Lab. Some users have since installed the test build on devices like the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy A54. This suggests the company has made substantial progress in One UI 8 development.

Meanwhile, a Samsung moderator confirmed that One UI 8 will address a frustrating widget sensitivity issue reported by Galaxy S25 users. In One UI 7, repositioning widgets on the home screen can be triggered too easily, with a long press duration of just half a second. This causes problems, especially when swiping between stacked widgets, and disrupts the user experience. We have faced this inconvenience several times already.

Responding to the issue, a Samsung community moderator confirmed that the company has already analyzed and fixed the problem. It plans to ship the solution as part of the One UI 8 update. Specifically, Samsung is expected to optimize long press sensitivity and duration on the home screen to prevent accidental widget movements.

Although there is an accessibility setting to increase long-press duration system-wide, this adjustment also affects the entire OS, not just the home screen widgets. A targeted fix in One UI 8 will ensure a more intuitive and stable experience without impacting other areas. By the looks of it, the next update will focus on polishing the One UI 7 base rather than introducing dramatic new changes. Perhaps this is why it took less time for Samsung to develop One UI 8. Expect more details to emerge soon.
