No 3x Zoom Camera Upgrade for Galaxy S25 Ultra, Tipster Claims

by | Sep 9, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

You might not want to hear this, but it looks like the Galaxy S25 Ultra won’t be getting a 3x zoom camera upgrade. According to a reliable tipster, Samsung plans to stick with the same Sony sensor that it also used on the S24 Ultra, S23 Ultra, and even the S22 Ultra. Only the ultrawide camera gets a new sensor next year, allegedly called the ISOCELL JN3.

Galaxy S25 Ultra may not get a 3x zoom camera upgrade

Early rumors have hinted at two new 50MP cameras for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, and potentially the S25 and S25+ too. Reliable industry insider Ice Universe recently confirmed that the new Samsung flagship will get a 50MP ultrawide camera, replacing the aging 12MP unit. However, the same source has now squashed the rumors of a 50MP 3x zoom camera.

According to them, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will use Sony’s 10MP IMX754 camera for its 3x optical zoom lens. It’s the same sensor Samsung previously used for zoom cameras on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, S23 Ultra, and S22 Ultra. While the Galaxy S21 Ultra also had a 10MP 3x zoom camera, it featured Samsung’s ISOCELL 3J1 sensor.

The tipster says the Korean firm has “confirmed” the camera specs for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This likely means the hardware has been finalized. In that case, Samsung will be reusing the same sensor for four years in a row. People are already questioning the S24 Ultra‘s zoom performance. The 2025 model may face worse criticism.

Samsung was widely expected to upgrade the 3x zoom camera on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Rival firms have started to outshine its zoom camera quality. However, it appears the Korean firm doesn’t care. The 5x zoom camera introduced on the Galaxy S24 Ultra is unchanged, and so is the 200MP ISOCELL HP2 main camera. It allegedly gets a “small process upgrade” but the sensor remains unchanged.
