On one hand, YouTube now gives you a way to control your Shorts temptation. On the other hand, Netflix is bringing a vertical scrolling video feed to the app. The feature has been in testing since last year, and now it looks ready to roll out more widely.
Netflix says it will improve discovery with new vertical video feature
Netflix’s vertical feed will let users swipe through clips from movies and TV shows, similar to what you see on social media. Each clip will work as a quick preview, so you can decide what to watch without going through menus or categories. The company confirmed the feature during its Q1 2026 earnings call (via TechCrunch).
Since Netflix has been testing this feature for a while, its wider rollout isn’t surprising. Users can tap on any clip to start watching the full title, add it to their watchlist, or share it with others right from the feed.
This move matches changing user habits, as more people watch content on their phones during short breaks or throughout the day. Netflix said viewing patterns are shifting, especially with newer formats like video podcasts becoming more popular on smaller screens.
Along with the vertical feed, Netflix is also working on better recommendations powered by newer AI models. The company says these updates will improve personalization, helping users find content faster while adapting to different formats and preferences.
This comes a month after Netflix raised prices in the US across all three plans. The ad-supported plan now costs $8.99 per month with limited ads. The Standard plan is $19.99 per month with ad-free viewing on two devices. The Premium plan costs $26.99 per month and adds support for four streams, along with Ultra HD and HDR.
