Samsung may have planned a major hardware upgrade for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. A reliable industry insider says the 2025 flagship will get a 16GB RAM variant. The device may also come in a 12GB RAM variant. They didn’t specify whether the previously rumored upgrade to LPDDR6 DRAM will materialize. Samsung should launch the phone in early 2025.

Samsung to offer a 16GB RAM variant of the Galaxy S25 Ultra

Noted X tipster Ice Universe recently made a relatively cryptic post on the platform. “16GB yes!” they said without any context. While it can throw some into confusion, people familiar with the source’s history and recent chatter around the rumor mill know it’s a reference to the Galaxy S25 Ultra. There have been some talks about this upgrade earlier this month.

It will follow the recent RAM upgrade for the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which now offers 12GB of RAM as standard. Samsung says its growing suite of on-device Galaxy AI features requires more RAM for efficient performance. Hence, it is offering a higher amount of RAM on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This upgrade should also help improve the overall performance of the device beyond AI.

If you recall, Samsung offered 16GB RAM on the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Ultra. So, the Galaxy S25 Ultra won’t be the first to do it. However, with the rumored upgrade to LPDDR6 DRAM technology, expect more efficient and reliable RAM performance. Since the Galaxy S25 series is still several months away, we may have to wait longer for more detailed leaks.
