For weeks, the buzz around the Galaxy S25 Slim has been overwhelmingly positive. Despite its sleek profile, the phone is expected to offer top-tier specs, sitting comfortably between the S25+ and S25 Ultra. However, new information may disappoint some fans. A reliable industry insider claims the Galaxy S25 Slim might not be available through US carriers. Additionally, its real name might be different, with Samsung potentially calling it the Galaxy S25 Special Edition.

Galaxy S25 Slim might debut with a different name, skip US carriers

Evan Blass, a trusted smartphone leaker with a solid track record, recently made a bold claim on X regarding the Galaxy S25 Slim’s marketing name. Well, they didn’t explicitly say that’s not the real name, the tipster suggested that Samsung would brand it differently. They gave the example of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (SE), Samsung’s slimmest foldable yet.

The foldable was originally rumored to be called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim or simply Fold Slim. However, the company later launched it as the Galaxy Z Fold SE. It might do something similar with the upcoming slim flagship, Blass opines. So, instead of the Galaxy S25 Slim, the device could be called the Galaxy S25 SE, i.e., Special Edition. Early rumors did refer to it as the Galaxy S25 SE.

That said, the tipster isn’t entirely sure about it, so take this information with a pinch of salt. Meanwhile, they claim that the Galaxy S25 Slim (let us call it that until we have more credible information regarding its name) will “almost certainly” skip US carriers. In other words, it will be only sold unlocked in the US, with no carrier version. Samsung didn’t even launch the Galaxy Z Fold SE stateside. In fact, the slim foldable is sold in only two countries worldwide: China and South Korea.

Expect Galaxy S25 Slim rumors to pick up pace in the coming weeks. Samsung might briefly tease the device during the Galaxy S25 launch at next week’s Unpacked, on January 22. Its market release may follow a few months later, potentially in May.
