July 2026 Google Play System Updates: What’s New?

Google has shared the release notes for the July 2026 Play System updates. The update introduces several new features, improvements, and other tweaks to Android’s core services. It should reach all eligible Samsung Galaxy devices in the coming weeks.

Here are the details of the Google Play System updates for July 2026

While Samsung pushes major OS upgrades and security updates to Galaxy devices, Google takes care of Android’s core components through monthly Play System updates. Some of these include updates to Google Play services and the Google Play Store. As of this writing, the Mountain View giant has detailed the first batch of changes coming through Google Play services.

Version 26.26 of Play Services brings the native storefront for Google One, making in-app purchases faster and more seamless. The company has also introduced a new API to improve the reliability of work profile setup. For developers, the update gains new tools to support Maps-related and Utilities-related processes in their apps.

Furthermore, the updates improve device connectivity. It lets users transfer their work profile account from an Android phone to a Wear OS smartwatch. This comes in handy if you want to access work apps and services across multiple devices. On PCs, Google now lets you manage Google Location Sharing settings and compatibility for supported device types.

Google is expected to share more changes, including updates for the Google Play Store, in the coming days. As usual, there is no word on when the July 2026 Play System updates will begin rolling out to Samsung Galaxy devices. However, it shouldn’t take long, given the company’s recent release patterns.

You can check for the update by heading to Settings > Security & privacy > Updates > Google Play system update. Once the update is installed, restart your device for all changes to apply properly. Note that not all Galaxy devices will get the update at the same time, as Google rolls it out in phases.

Update (07/17/2026)

Speaking of Play Store version 52.3, the company has improved the content layout and increased content density on large screens. If you live in the EU, you can now identify AI-generated images with an AI label. Note that some older images and unsupported formats may not show the tag. The update also changes the Wear details page, which now uses the Univision architecture rather than the legacy fragment architecture.

Meanwhile, Google updates Android AICore, a system service that handles on-device AI models. This update changes safety filtering for features that generate streaming output. It also improves model download and management. Moreover, it introduces more diagnostics for multimodal inferencing and API latencies.

Update (07/24/2026)

As for Play Services version 26.28, the update brings support for audio permissions in WebViews. It also lets device makers launch storage management and subscription flows. Moreover, Android Credential Manager gets support for Android TV, so you can use saved passwords and passkeys easily.

Google has improved Device Connectivity with additional quality logging for Auto, phones, and Android TV. The update also fixes bugs in the Device Connections service on phones. Now, the lock screen lets you find the device’s IMEI. In the Wallet app, after you complete, cancel, or encounter an error in My Account, the system now returns you to the previous screen instead of the app home screen.

Meanwhile, Play Store version 52.4 offers a bunch of search improvements. The update brings support for natural language queries, expands search suggestions, and increases the search box to two lines. Google now lets you add an app’s widget to the home screen during app installation.
