Samsung seems to have forgotten about the Google Play System updates for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. The latest foldables shipped with the April build and remain on it. They haven’t received any Play System updates since launch. Users have started to voice their frustration as timely updates are crucial for security and performance improvements.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 are still running the April Play System update
Google Play System updates are updates to core Android OS system apps and services. These updates are released regularly for enhanced security, stability, and functionality of various Android features. They are denoted with a monthly build, allowing users to keep track of the updates they have installed. Sometimes, multiple builds are released in the same month.
For example, we have received at least two August Play System updates on the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy A55. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 haven’t picked up even one. Released in late July, the new foldables haven’t received a single Play System update so far. They arrived with the April build installed, and are still running the same build.
We’ve been constantly checking our devices for updates, but nothing has appeared yet. A growing Reddit thread shows we’re not alone—many Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 users are frustrated with the missing Play System updates. Samsung has remained silent on the issue, offering no clarity to its users. Hopefully, the company will work on it and address the problem soon.
Last year, some Galaxy phones faced similar delays in receiving Play System updates for months. The updates didn’t arrive for as many as six months. It’s unclear if the latest foldables are facing the same challenge. We will let you know when we have more information. You can check for updates from the About phone > Software information menu in the Settings app.
