As you know, Google Messages has been helping its users with real-time spam detection features for several years. The app now aims to make unsubscribing from automated text messages easier. Google is rolling out a new feature for its Messages app that allows users to unsubscribe from automated business texts with just a few taps. Users will see an option “unsubscribe to stop receiving messages” at the bottom of the screen.
New Google Messages feature simplifies opting out of automated texts
Many users receive automated text messages frequently from businesses, political campaigns, and other organizations, though most organizations allow users to opt out of these messages by replying with STOP. But only a few users know that they can block such automated message replying with STOP, and that too if the message itself mentions this option.
To solve this, Google Messages now informs users that they can unsubscribe from automated text messages. Folks over at Android Authority have spotted some new text at the bottom of the screen within the Messages app that shows “unsubscribe to stop receiving messages.”
Once the user taps on the Unsubscribe text, it asks why they want to unsubscribe, displaying five options: Not signed up, Too many messages, No longer interested, Spam, and Other. If the user chooses the “Spam” option, it shows an additional option that says “Report this sender”. The “Other” option allows users to describe the reason for opting out of these messages. It is worth noting that this new feature replaces the existing “Block & report spam” option at the bottom of chats.
A user must select one of the five options and hit the unsubscribe button to make the system send a STOP command. The user will then see an “Unsubscribe request sent” message, confirming their choice. Notably, if you want to receive messages from that sender later, you can also resubscribe to automated texts by tapping the “START” button, which shows up in the bottom right of the screen.
The publication says this new unsubscribe feature is rolling out gradually, so you might not see it right away. Keep an eye out for the latest Google Messages updates.
