Google Announces new Android Features for your Galaxy Device

by | Sep 5, 2024 | News, Updates

Your Galaxy phone, tablet, or watch is getting five new features from Google. The Android maker has announced new AI tools and more amazing goodies for all Android and Wear OS devices, including the Galaxy family. These features will gradually roll out to compatible devices in the coming days or weeks.

Google adds powerful new features to Android-powered Galaxy devices

Google has announced a major update for Talkback, Android’s built-in screen reader. Designed to help people with visual impairments navigate across their Android products with ease, the feature now integrates Gemini AI to make digital images even more accessible. It offers detailed audio descriptions of images on supported devices, bringing them to life and helping more people.

Circle to Search, the powerful AI feature that has quickly evolved into much more than a search tool, is getting music-identifying abilities. Simply tap the Music button on the Circle to Search overlay and your Galaxy phone will identify music playing on the device or nearby. It will provide you with the track name and artist, and even open the related YouTube video, all without switching apps.

Google Chrome can now read aloud web pages so you don’t have to. You can listen to web pages at your preferred speed, type of voice, and language. How cool is that? There’s an even cooler feature that Google is already rolling out to Android users in the US. Its Earthquake Alert feature is expanding to all US states and six territories. The handy tool isn’t available in other countries.

Finally, your Wear OS-powered Galaxy Watch — all models since the Watch 4 (2021) — is getting offline Google Maps. You can download a map to your phone and access it on your watch. Google lets you view locations within the downloaded map without an internet connection, though voice search doesn’t work offline. The feature has been in development for a long time and should roll out soon.
