Google has announced a special edition of The Android Show next week. The event will focus on Android XR, the company’s platform for smart glasses and headsets. Naturally, this has built hype among fans keen to see Samsung’s XR smart glasses.

Google’s Android XR event sparks excitement for Samsung’s smart glasses

The Android Show will spotlight the latest XR innovations and experiences. It is scheduled for December 8 at 10:00 AM PT. You can watch the livestream on the Android Developers YouTube channel. The company also released a short teaser video, showing two Android robot characters. One is wearing an XR headset, while the other appears to be wearing smart glasses.

“Learn about all things XR across glasses, headsets, and everything in between,” the description reads. “Hear how with Gemini by your side, you are able to have a more conversational, contextual, and helpful experience.” This hints that Google may showcase both headsets and upcoming smart glasses, possibly including Samsung’s models. Furthermore, the mention of Gemini suggests that it will highlight AI’s role in Android XR.

Samsung has already confirmed that it is developing Android XR smart glasses in collaboration with Google. It has also teamed up with eyewear brands, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, to make its glasses look more stylish. Rumors suggest the Korean firm will launch two smart glasses models, one expected in 2026 and another in 2027.

Furthermore, Samsung’s first smart glasses may feature a built-in camera. They will connect through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to a paired smartphone, but they may not support mobile data on their own. Moreover, the upcoming smart glasses will also play nicer with the Galaxy Ring.

In October 2025, Samsung stepped into the XR market with the Galaxy XR headset. It now aims to launch XR-based smart glasses that are more practical than bulky headsets and easier to use in day-to-day life. Hopefully, the upcoming Android XR event will shed some light on these glasses, even if they are not fully showcased.
