Amid the hype surrounding the One UI 7.0 beta, Google began rolling out an updated version of the Gmail app for Android, including Galaxy devices. Once you install the latest update, you’ll be greeted with an all-new, fullscreen account switcher.
Gmail begins rolling out a fullscreen account switcher on Android
As reported by 9to5Google, the fullscreen account switcher is part of the Gmail app for Android v2024.11.24x. After updating, tapping the profile icon now takes you to a fullscreen menu within the app. Previously, the account switcher appeared as a semi-transparent overlay that covered most of the screen, with your previous screen still visible in the background.
Thankfully, that’s no longer the case, for better. The update replaces the background with a solid color, aligning more with Google’s recent visual overhaul. There are also other UI improvements aimed at enhancing the overall user experience.
Gmail’s update account switcher on Android looks better, in all fairness
The folks at 9to5Google provide a detailed breakdown of the changes. The publication reports that a close (X) button is now located in the top-right corner, allowing you to exit the fullscreen switcher either by going back or by selecting an account. At the top of the screen, your email address is displayed centrally, followed by a large profile picture and a friendly greeting, “Hi, [name]!” Below this, there’s a prominent button labeled “Manage your Google Account.”
You’ll also find the option to “Switch account,” which opens a list with shortcuts to “Add another account” and “Manage accounts on this device.” Additionally, a “Storage used” section appears, similar to what you see in Gmail. At the bottom of the page, there are links to the “Privacy Policy” and “Terms of Service.”
In all fairness, I like the change. It feels more in line with the web version of Gmail, which I tend to use more than the app. What do you think about the update? Tag us on social media, and we’ll continue the conversation over there,
