Samsung has pushed the boundaries of foldable phones with its first three-panel device, the Galaxy Z TriFold. Since the phone transforms from a compact phone to a tablet-like device, its thickness plays a big role in how portable and comfortable it feels in the hand. However, it doesn’t have a single measurement for thinness. Let’s take a look at this oddly uneven phone.

Galaxy Z TriFold’s thickness differs depending on which panel you measure

Samsung used two differently sized hinges with a dual-rail structure to handle the folding mechanism of the Galaxy Z TriFold. This hinge system allows each panel to fold precisely with a minimal gap for a smoother experience. It features an inward-folding design to reduce the risk of scratches to the main display.

Each section of the device has a slightly different thickness. The left panel (screen with the SIM tray) measures 3.9mm thick. The center panel (containing the cover display) is 4.2mm, while the right panel (screen with the side button) is 4.0mm (excluding the camera bump).

When folded fully, the Galaxy Z TriFold measures 12.9mm thick. At first glance, this might not seem impressive as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 8.9mm thick. However, this is understandable given that the phone uses three folding sections. If you add up three panel thicknesses, you get 12.1mm, which is slightly less than the folded thickness. The extra 0.8mm seems to come from a minimal gap left between the panels.

Speaking of other key measurements, the Galaxy Z TriFold’s height measures 159.2mm (folded or unfolded). The device’s width is 75.0mm (folded), making it comfortable to use with one hand. When unfolded, the width reaches 214.1mm across the three panels, making it ideal for multitasking. The phone weighs 309g. It will be available for purchase in the US in the first quarter of 2026.
