If you haven’t been living under a rock lately, then you probably know that Samsung is going to launch the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition soon. The handset has already been leaked multiple times ahead of the launch. Most recently, the popular tipster Evan Blass gave us a glimpse at the rear cameras of the new foldable. Now, the Korean publication Financial News has revealed the launch date of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.

Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition’s launch date is October 25

According to the source, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition’s launch date is set for October 25. The company will hold an event, probably an online one, to introduce its new foldable smartphone. As previously reported, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will be the slimmest foldable smartphone from the brand to date. It is expected to measure 4.9mm around the waist when unfolded. When unfolded, the device will be 10.6mm thick. It will be a significant improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s 5.6mm and 12.1mm thicknesses in the same modes.

The Special Edition will help Samsung solidify its position in the foldable smartphone market

The latest report also mentions that the Z Fold Special Edition will help Samsung solidify its position in the foldable segment. As per the market research firm Counterpoint, Samsung’s share of the global foldable phone market was 23 percent in Q1 2024. The company fell to second place for the first time. The brand’s share of the foldable smartphone market was much lower than the leader Huawei (35 percent).

Honor took the third place at 12 percent market share in the first quarter of this year. Motorola and OPPO followed with their 11 percent and 8 percent share at fourth to fifth spots. Notably, Samsung has reportedly increased the size of the cover screen from 6.3-inches on the Z Fold 6 to 6.5-inches on the Special Edition.

The inner screen of the upcoming device is also expected to see a bump in size. These two notable improvements could help the brand increase its foldable market share.
