Galaxy Z Fold 8 Off to a Strong Start With Higher Demand Than the Ultra

Samsung introduced three new foldable phones last week, but the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may be emerging as the surprise favorite. Early reports suggest the compact, wide foldable is attracting more buyers than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, even though it skips a few flagship features.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 preorders have reportedly exceeded Samsung’s expectations

Korean tipster Lanzuk claims Galaxy Z Fold 8 preorders have exceeded Samsung’s internal expectations. According to the leaker, Samsung began production with volumes roughly 40% higher than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. However, the supply is reportedly still falling short of demand. The report adds that offline stores in Korea may not have steady stock until early or mid September. As for carriers, the inventory could remain limited until mid August.

Another well-known leaker, Ice Universe, has made a similar claim. They say Galaxy Z Fold 8 preorders have “far exceeded” those of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, adding that the trend isn’t limited to Korea and is also being seen in other markets. Samsung hasn’t released official sales or preorder figures, so these claims remain unverified.

If these reports are accurate, the phone’s design could be one reason behind its early momentum. Unlike the Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a more compact form factor with a 10:16 cover display and a 4:3 foldable screen. That layout is better suited for watching videos, with smaller black bars on 16:9 content and a perfect fit for 4:3 videos.

The smaller footprint also makes the Fold 8 easier to carry and use one-handed than the Ultra. Of course, the phone still comes with compromises. It starts at $1,899, and it does come with a few compromises. Even so, early demand suggests those trade-offs haven’t stopped buyers from placing their orders.
