Samsung is expanding its November 2024 security update to more eligible Galaxy devices. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 are receiving the latest security patch globally, including in the US. The company has already updated the Galaxy S24 and S23 phones, as well as a few other devices. More will join the party soon.

November update available for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 globally

The November 2024 SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for Galaxy smartphones and tablets patches over 50 vulnerabilities, including a few high-severity risks already being exploited by threat actors, potentially compromising the security of affected devices. The update also addresses security flaws in Samsung’s flagship Exynos processors like the Galaxy S24’s Exynos 2400.

Additionally, Samsung is pushing a major change to the Auto Blocker feature. When set to Maximum Restrictions, Auto Blocker now blocks all USB connections except for charging. You cannot even use wired Android Auto, let alone transfer files to your computer. The USB port does nothing more than charge your phone, ensuring maximum safety of your data.

This update should roll out to all Galaxy devices that support Auto Blocker, which comes enabled by default and blocks installation of apps from unknown sources. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 are picking up the November security update globally with the firmware version GXJA (the last four characters of the build number). We can confirm the rollout in the US, Europe, Korea, and several other Asian countries.

Samsung will soon update these foldables to the November SMR in the remaining countries. While the build number may vary in some markets, the changelog should remain the same. You can also expect other eligible Galaxy phones and tablets to receive the update in the coming days. Samsung lets you manually check for updates from the Settings app (Software update > Download and install).
