While Samsung has improved its Secure Folder in One UI 8, it has also made a key change that has sparked discussions among users. The Android 16-based update removes a useful auto lock option, “Each time I leave an app,” which many found helpful. Fans are now asking the Korean firm to restore this security feature in a future update.

Protected by the Knox security platform, Samsung’s Secure Folder lets Galaxy users create a private space within their devices. You can lock the folder using a PIN, pattern, or biometric authentication, which makes it easy to keep sensitive information safe from prying eyes. Within this separate storage, you can store a bunch of confidential data, such as photos, files, and apps.

Before One UI 8, Secure Folder offered six auto-lock options, allowing the folder to lock in several convenient ways. You could set it to lock each time you leave an app, when the screen turns off, when the phone restarts, or after 5, 10, or 30 minutes. However, the latest Android 16-based custom OS loses the ability to lock using the “Each time I leave an app” option. Note that the remaining options are still intact, letting you enjoy auto lock functionality.

However, some Galaxy users are not happy with the change and have taken to forums to bring it to the company’s attention. In a post on the Samsung US community forum, tipster @tarunvats33 wrote, “Please bring back the Each time I leave an app option in Secure Folder, which was removed after the One UI 8 update. I think the Secure Folder is not secure anymore, as everyone can open it while the phone screen is on.”

For users who want to automatically lock their sensitive apps and files the moment they leave the app, this feature is undoubtedly an important layer of security. If you want this security option back, you can visit the tipster’s post and then log in with your Samsung account to like or comment. This might grab the company’s attention and may address it in a future update.
