Galaxy S26 Can Double as a High-Quality Webcam for Your PC

Samsung keeps adding more practical features to its latest flagships. The Galaxy S26 series brings a surprisingly useful one that many users might overlook. But suffice to say, it could be one of the most useful ones that you’re probably already using if you have a Pixel.
Galaxy S26 turns into a plug-and-play webcam for your computer
The Galaxy S26 series now supports a built-in webcam mode, according to Android Authority. This allows you to use your smartphone as a high-quality camera for your PC. As a result, your Galaxy S26 can easily replace your laptop’s often mediocre webcam.
The setup is straightforward. You simply connect your Galaxy S26 to a computer using a USB cable. Then the system gives you the option to use the phone as a webcam. Once connected, your PC recognizes the phone just like a standard webcam. Samsung also includes a High Quality mode, which lets you take full advantage of the phone’s superior camera hardware for clearer video.
For most users, this feature makes a lot of sense. Smartphone cameras, including the ones on the Galaxy S26, are significantly better than the webcams found in most laptops. Instead of relying on grainy, low-resolution video, users can now get better image quality, improved colors and dynamic range, and sharper video overall. This can make a noticeable difference for video calls, online meetings, or even streaming.
A feature borrowed from Pixel phones
This functionality isn’t entirely new to Android. Google first introduced a native USB webcam mode with Android 14, initially available on Pixel devices. Now, Samsung is finally adopting the same feature on the Galaxy S26 lineup, bringing it to a much wider audience.
Samsung already offers Camera Share between Galaxy devices with One UI 7.0, but that solution had limitations. However, the new USB webcam mode works directly with PCs. This makes it far more flexible and easier to use in everyday scenarios.
For now, this feature appears to be limited to the Galaxy S26 series on One UI 8.5. It doesn’t appear to be there on One UI 8.5 Beta on the Galaxy S25 series. However, since it’s based on Android’s native functionality, there’s a possibility Samsung could bring it to older devices with the stable One UI 8.5 update. Overall, this is one of those small but genuinely useful upgrades.
