Samsung looks set to make its upcoming Galaxy S26 a powerful AI companion with improved Bixby. The company will reportedly integrate Perplexity AI into its in-house assistant to handle complex tasks. It’s unclear whether this move will result in replacing Gemini with Bixby as the default assistant, but the chances are low.

Samsung may improve Bixby to handle complex queries

Last month, we learned that Samsung will upgrade Bixby with a redesigned pop-up bar for a visually appealing look. Thanks to noted tipster @chunvn8888, we now know Bixby will take advantage of Perplexity AI’s advanced search capabilities. This integration could improve Bixby’s intelligence, which has long lagged behind other popular AI assistants.

The tipster says Bixby will handle day-to-day tasks, while Perplexity AI will support it in tackling more complex queries. Samsung’s decision to integrate Perplexity comes after the company reportedly invested in the AI platform. Earlier reports suggested that the company may set it as the default assistant. Now things are becoming clearer: it could actually be Perplexity AI-powered Bixby. However, considering Samsung’s continued partnership with Google, it seems that Gemini will remain the default assistant, but only time will tell.

A few weeks ago, Samsung announced the launch of the Perplexity TV App, letting users quickly find what they’re looking for. Now, the company is reportedly planning to pre-install the app on upcoming smartphones, possibly starting with the Galaxy S26 series. So, as an investor, the firm is likely prioritizing Perplexity AI over other AI agents.

Meanwhile, Samsung may introduce a new launcher shortcut for AI services in One UI 8.5, allowing users to get answers directly from the home screen. Users may have the flexibility to choose between three different AI providers for the shortcut: Gauss, Gemini, and Perplexity. We should learn more about the Korean firm’s AI push for the next major Android 16-based software in the coming weeks.
