Samsung Backtracks: Galaxy S25 to Get Call Screening with One UI 8.5

Samsung recently found itself under fire after community moderators and support staff hinted that some of the new AI features introduced with the Galaxy S26 series wouldn’t make their way to older devices. Most notably, Call Screening appeared to be exclusive to the new flagships, even though the Galaxy S25 lineup is clearly capable of supporting it. Now, it looks like Samsung has reconsidered its stance following strong user backlash.
Samsung listens as Galaxy S25 users push back
Starting with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, Samsung promised seven years of software support for its flagship phones. But that commitment loses its meaning if key features do not arrive despite older hardware being fully capable. That’s exactly the argument Galaxy S25 users raised after being told their devices wouldn’t get Call Screening, and potentially other AI features introduced with the S26 lineup.
Now, after relentless user pressure, Samsung has changed its course. A new notice posted on the company’s community forums in South Korea suggests it has taken that feedback seriously. The notice specifically mentions that Call Screening will trickle down to the Galaxy S25 series with One UI 8.5.
The feature should also be available on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, though we can’t confirm the same for the Galaxy S24 series. Hopefully, the company won’t put artificial restrictions as long as the hardware is capable. What’s the meaning of unrivaled update support if those updates do not bring the latest features?
As of this writing, Samsung has not announced the stable One UI 8.5 rollout for the Galaxy S25 series. However, the update may arrive later this month. The company is widely expected to complete the One UI 8.5 rollout for all eligible models by mid-2026. It will launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 with One UI 9 (Android 17) in July or August. Stay tuned for more information.
