While the Galaxy S25 Ultra is grabbing most of the attention, Samsung’s base Galaxy S25 has plenty to offer. This upcoming compact flagship will be notably slimmer than the Ultra and introduce a distinctive camera design. It’s not about the layout, but rather the double-layered camera rings that create a floating effect. A recent leak provides a close-up look at these innovative camera rings.

Galaxy S25’s redesigned camera rings are slimmer

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is said to be 8.2mm thick, slimmer than the iPhone 16 Pro Max (8.3mm), Pixel 9 Pro XL (8.5mm), and Galaxy S24 Ultra (8.6mm). Samsung is cutting the thickness of the base model by the same margin. According to the prolific leaker Ice Universe, the Galaxy S25 will measure 7.2mm in thickness, down 0.4mm from the base Galaxy S24’s 7.6mm thick body.

Moreover, the Galaxy S25’s camera rings will be just 1.8mm thick, compared to the S25 Ultra’s 2.4mm (the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s camera rings are 4.3mm thick). With these dimensions, Samsung’s next compact flagship looks set to win many hearts. “I think this S25 will definitely become the new favorite of people who like small mobile phones,” the leaker said in a recent X post revealing these figures.

The said X post also contains an image showing the alleged floating camera rings of the Galaxy S25 (like the S25+ too). It’s a novel design concept from Samsung, though there are concerns about dust potentially accumulating under the rings. Maybe this design has a functional advantage too, time will tell. Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S25 series in early 2025. You can already sign up for our mystery box program to get exclusive gifts and accessories when you order the phone at launch.
