For years, Samsung has been conservative with charging speeds compared to many Android rivals. Most of its Galaxy phones, including flagships, top out at 25W charging, with only the Ultra models climbing to 45W. That strategy has often drawn criticism, especially as competitors in the same price bracket regularly push 65W, 80W, or even triple-digit wattage. But things may finally be changing, if the Galaxy S25 FE’s launch is a sign of things to come.

The Galaxy S25 FE gets 45W charging

The newly launched Galaxy S25 FE supports 45W fast charging, a notable jump from 25W on last year’s S24 FE. It’s not the first non-Ultra to make the move — Samsung has quietly extended 45W support to some of its mid-range Galaxy A series models earlier this year, including the Galaxy A56. But bringing it to the Fan Edition, a device that sits between the mid-tier and flagship lineup, signals a broader shift in strategy.

Industry chatter suggests Samsung isn’t stopping here. Leaks point to the Galaxy S26 Ultra potentially supporting 60W or even 65W wired charging. If true, it would mark Samsung’s fastest charging standard to date and a long-awaited leap for users who’ve watched other brands race ahead.

This could also reset the hierarchy across the Galaxy portfolio. Samsung could offer 60W/65W charging on Ultra smartphones and flagship tablets, 45W on standard flagships, FE models, a premium mid-range devices, and 25W on entry-level offerings. Such a structure would not only simplify expectations but also bring Samsung closer to the competition without abandoning its cautious approach to battery safety and longevity.

Whether that materializes, we will know when the Galaxy S26 series goes official early next year. If the new Ultra does debut with 60W+ charging, expect 45W to become the new normal for most Galaxy devices, finally giving users a faster, more competitive charging experience without sacrificing the reliability Samsung is known for. The Galaxy S25 FE is now available for purchase for $649.
