Galaxy A26 Gets April Security Patch, Misses Out on Seamless Updates

Samsung has released the first software update for the Galaxy A26, its latest midrange smartphone. The update brings the April 2025 security patch, which includes dozens of fixes for security vulnerabilities. Alongside the patch, the update also confirms that the Galaxy A26 does not support seamless updates.

Galaxy A26’s first software update brings the April security patch

Samsung launched the Galaxy A26 alongside the Galaxy A56 and A36 last month. All three models shipped with One UI 7 out of the box. We already have confirmation that the latter two support seamless updates, an Android OS feature that allows system updates to be installed in the background without interrupting device usage. Seamless updates reduce downtime during software updates and minimize bricking risks in case something goes wrong during the installation process.

Last year’s Galaxy A55 was the first Samsung phone to support this convenience feature Google introduced several years ago. The company added it to the Galaxy S25 lineup early this year and then extended support to the Galaxy A56 and A36. Unfortunately, the Galaxy A26 misses out on seamless updates.

It’s unclear why Samsung chose not to add this feature to this midrange phone. We know seamless updates take up more system storage as they need two separate system partitions so that updates can be installed on the secondary partition when the device is in use. However, the Galaxy A26, A36, and A56 all start at 128GB of base storage.

Nonetheless, the Galaxy A26 is now getting its first update with the latest security patch. The April SMR (Security Maintenance Release) addresses over 60 vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family, including a few critical bugs. The update is available in Europe with the firmware build number A266BXXS2AYC1. The 290MB OTA package doesn’t seem to bring anything more. A global rollout should begin soon.
