Exynos 2400e, Exynos 2500 to Power Samsung’s 2025 Flip Models

Samsung is gearing up for a major expansion of its foldable smartphone lineup in 2025. If rumors hold true, the firm plans to launch five foldable devices next year: two Flip models, two Fold models, and a tri-fold smartphone. It could also diversify its chip strategy for these devices, with Exynos in the mix. Reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE could feature the Exynos 2400e, while the Exynos 2500 may power the standard Flip 7.

Exynos chips are coming to Samsung Flip foldables in 2025

Samsung has been making foldable smartphones since 2019. It has launched over a dozen different models and they all exclusively used Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. However, recent rumors suggest the company will introduce Exynos chips to its folding phones next year. More precisely, it plans to ship Flip clamshell models with its in-house processors to reduce cost, potentially bringing foldables to the masses.

The Korean behemoth even plans a low-cost Fan Edition (FE) model, allegedly called the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE or simply Galaxy Z Flip FE. Early reports said it will feature the Exynos 2400, a flagship SoC that powers the Galaxy S24 and S24+ in some markets, including Europe. However, a new leak suggests Samsung will instead use the Exynos 2400e, an underclocked version of this chipset, It powers the Galaxy S24 FE globally.

Additionally, Samsung plans to use the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Flip 7. This Exynos processor was originally meant to power the Gaalxy S25 flagships, but the company couldn’t pull it off. Its foundry division struggled to secure a healthy yield rate for its advanced 3nm process node — this is Samsung’s first 3nm smartphone processor. As such, the firm canceled the so-called “dream chip” for the upcoming flagships.

It hasn’t entirely shelved the Exynos 2500 project, though. The Korean media says Samsung recently began its mass production for the Galaxy Z Flip 7. While the new Flip is still several months away, an early start from the company suggests it hasn’t improved the yield rate much. Poor yields directly impact the overall production capacity. The Exynos 2400 and Exynos 2400e are 4nm processors and do not have any yield issues.
