ChatGPT is facing a major outage, which means it’s currently down for millions of users. According to ChatGPT’s parent OpenAI, the issues began today around 11 AM PST / 2 PM ET.
ChatGPT is down, the very next day after Christmas
We are currently experiencing an issue with high error rates on ChatGPT, the API, and Sora,” wrote OpenAI. The team is said to be “investigating” the matter. As for the reason behind the ChatGPT outage, it’s “caused by an upstream provider.” OpenAI says it’s “currently monitoring,” according to an update shared at 11:18 AM PST / 2:18 PM ET.
After hearing the news about ChatGPT, I immediately rushed to check whether it was working for me or not. To my surprise, the send button was greyed out for me on my phone. On PC, however, I could send messages but they were returned with an error. So, I can confirm that ChatGPT is indeed facing a major outage for many users.
The outage comes hot on the heels of recent announcements made by OpenAI. In one such announcement, ChatGPT released Sora to subscribers. In another, OpenAI released dial 1-800-CHATGPT to speak to the AI chatbot in the United States. Moreover, users outside the US can now interact with ChatGPT via WhatsApp using the same number.
