If a new rumor is accurate, Samsung is making 12GB RAM the standard for the Galaxy S25 series. There’s no longer an 8GB RAM option for the S25 or S25+. The Ultra, which already offers 12GB RAM, might add a 16GB option next year. Additionally, all models could start with 256GB of storage. The new flagships arrive in January.
Samsung is doing away with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage for the Galaxy S25
There have been contrasting reports about Samsung’s RAM and storage configurations for the Galaxy S25 series. While some rumors claimed the company would do away with the 8GB RAM variant, others suggested that the base model might still come with 8GB RAM. Likewise, there have been mixed reports about whether the 128GB storage variant will be dropped.
Noted X tipster @yabhishekhd recently claimed that Samsung is removing the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage options from its upcoming flagship models. All three variants are expected to feature 12GB of RAM at at least 256GB storage. Earlier leaks suggested that the Ultra model might offer 16GB of RAM with 512GB and 1TB storage options, but the latest leak doesn’t mention this.
The new leak also doesn’t specify if this change will be global or limited to certain regions. Samsung often doesn’t sell the base variants of its flagships in all markets. The tipster’s data may come from a region where the 8GB+128GB Galaxy S25 variants aren’t available. We hope that’s not the case though, as it’s about time Samsung offered more RAM and storage on the base variant.
Meanwhile, this upgrade could come at a cost. Multiple sources have hinted at a price hike for the Galaxy S25 series. With more RAM and storage on the base variant, Samsung might be able to justify the hike to an extent. Of course, the new flagships bring many other upgrades, but those are usually expected in new models. Stick around for more Galaxy S25 leaks ahead of the January 22 launch.
