After the Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 5, Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch update is available for the Galaxy Watch 4 lineup. As usual, the company is initially rolling out the Wear OS 5-based update to beta users. A global rollout should begin in the coming days. Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra shipped with the latest One UI version.
Galaxy Watch 4 gets the One UI 6 Watch update
Samsung has been terribly slow with its major One UI updates this year. It has yet to release beta programs for its Android 15-based One UI 7.0 update for phones and tablets. The company also took ages to roll out the One UI 6 Watch update for its smartwatches.
While beta testing began in June, the stable build didn’t arrive until late October. Even then, Samsung only covered Galaxy Watch 6 users who participated in the beta programs in South Korea and the US. A wider rollout finally began earlier this week. Samsung simultaneously ended the beta program for the Galaxy Watch 5 series, rolling out the stable build to beta participants.
Non-beta Galaxy Watch 5 users were also treated with the One UI 6 Watch update shortly afterward. Samsung has now closed betas for the Watch 4 series. Beta users are getting the stable One UI 6 Watch build with firmware version IXK1. It also bundles the October security patch. Hopefully, Samsung won’t keep global Galaxy Watch 4 users waiting for long.
As far as the One UI 7.0 beta is concerned, it may have been delayed until mid-December. Samsung is apparently struggling to stabilize the new AI features it has baked into the system. Moreover, it has completely changed the face of One UI with major design changes and animation upgrades. All of this is seemingly taking a toll on its software engineers, delaying the public release. Samsung has already announced that the stable update will roll out after the Galaxy S25 launch in January.
