Samsung is now stepping into the single-family modular construction market with a smart home concept. The Korean firm has teamed up with Space Workshop to launch the “Samsung AI Modular Home”. The house is equipped with AI-powered appliances and connected home solutions.

Samsung’s smart appliances power its AI Modular Home

Space Workshop builds modular homes, with more than 80% of the construction done in a factory. The company uses AI-based design tools and automated production systems to make housing units. It then transports those units to the site for assembly and installation.

Samsung and Space Workshop recently opened a showroom for the AI Modular Home in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The showroom features two model homes that resemble real living spaces. One model is a 100-pyeong home (roughly 3,558 sq ft or 330.58 sq m), while the other is a 20-pyeong version (711.66 sq ft). The company also lets the customer select from other housing sizes, such as 10-pyeong, 30-pyeong, and 40-pyeong.

Samsung’s AI Modular Home also comes with its smart home technology. During the factory production stage, the company installs and registers smart appliances in the home. Homeowners can select from around 20 SmartThings-compatible devices. Some of these include AI-powered air conditioners, heat pump boilers, refrigerators, TVs, smart lighting systems, home cameras, and door cameras.

As a result, homeowners can start using the smart home system as soon as they move in. They save time and money on appliance purchases and installations, and can enjoy a convenient AI home life right away.

Samsung plans to expand its AI modular home concept beyond single-family houses. The company wants to apply the idea to mid-rise buildings with four or more floors. Moreover, it aims to bring its AI home solutions to a range of homes and buildings in the future.

“Going forward, we will continue to propose a differentiated lifestyle that transcends the limitations of residential spaces by combining the innovativeness of modular architecture with Samsung Electronics’ unique AI home solutions,” said a Samsung executive.
