Samsung has started teasing its next foldable, and this time, the message is not subtle at all. The next Galaxy Unpacked is rumored to take place on July 22. Ahead of this event, Samsung Mobile has deleted all of its posts from Instagram. Additionally, it has posted a series of Instagram Reels teasers. These all point toward one major change.

Recent reports and CAD leaks have also claimed Samsung will introduce a wider book-style foldable this year. In addition, the regular successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 may launch as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

“New Shape. New Joy” says everything

Samsung’s main teaser headline is: New Shape. New Joy. And honestly, that line tells us almost everything we need to know. For years, Galaxy Z Fold users asked Samsung to make the cover display wider and more practical. Samsung finally improved that with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 last year. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could take things even further with a more unusual aspect ratio.

This does not look like just another small size adjustment. Samsung seems ready to reposition the Fold lineup with a new form factor, ready for the iPhone Ultra foldable that is rumored to launch this fall. The first teaser confirms the Galaxy Z Fold 8 wallpaper, which features a giant number 8, and just like Samsung’s recent flagship wallpapers, it appears to be interactive. The wallpaper also shows one of the expected colors for the Galaxy Z Fold 8: Lavender.

The rest of the teasers all seem to focus on one idea: cutting away height and keeping what matters. One teaser shows a pizza being cut into a large rectangle, which clearly feels like a visual hint at the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s wider aspect ratio.

Another teaser recreates the iconic Squid Game dalgona game challenge, asking someone to carve the phone’s shape out of the honeycomb candy without breaking it. In Samsung’s version, the shape appears to represent the new phone silhouette.

Samsung continues the theme with a puzzle, removing the top pieces to create a shorter, wider shape. Another teaser crops the top of a photo and pairs it with the message, “Cut to what matters most.” Finally, Samsung finishes the campaign by breaking off the top row of a chocolate bar, driving home the same message: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is all about its new, wider form factor.

The biggest Fold design shift in years

It’s not random anymore. Every teaser points toward the same direction: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is getting a wider, more rectangular form factor. Samsung has been refining the Galaxy Z Fold design for years, but the overall idea stayed mostly the same: a tall cover screen and a large inner display.

That changed slightly with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which finally brought users a wider cover display. But now, Samsung seems ready to go further. If the leaks are accurate, the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be the wider foldable, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will act as the more direct successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. That would make the standard Fold 8 the experimental model, not the Ultra.

Why a wider Fold matters?

A wider Fold is not just about looks. It could make the phone better for typing on the cover display, reading articles, watching videos, and using apps that do not scale well on tall foldables.

And with this new form factor, Samsung could finally make the Fold feel closer to a small tablet when opened. That would also help Samsung get ahead of Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone, which may use a similar wider, more tablet-like design when unfolded.

Samsung’s teasers make one thing clear: the company does not want the next Fold to feel like an iterative upgrade. The message is all about shape and aspect ratio. And if the Galaxy Z Fold 8 really is the wider model, this could be one of the biggest design changes in the history of the Galaxy Z Fold series.
