With just weeks to go for Samsung’s next foldable launch, expected on July 22, leaks are becoming increasingly detailed. The latest rumor points to a long-overdue charging upgrade for the Galaxy Z Flip 8. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, on the other hand, could receive a brightness boost, with its peak brightness reportedly topping the S26 Ultra.
New Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Flip 8 leaks are quite promising
After years of stagnation, Samsung is finally improving charging speeds on Galaxy phones this year. The Galaxy S26 Ultra saw a boost from 45W to 60W wired charging. Now, its foldables are also jumpring from 25W to 45W speeds. Earlier, this upgrade was only expected on the Fold models, but the new Flip could also get a charging boost.
Despite some certifications hinting at 25W charging for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, a fresh rumor circulating online says the device will support 45W wired charging. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) and Fold 8 Ultra are also getting the same speeds. Their battery capacities come in at 4,300mAh, 4,800mAh, and 5,000mAh, respectively.
If you recall, the new Flip isn’t getting a bigger battery this year. However, this isn’t surprising, as Samsung previously increased the cell from from 3,700mAh on the Flip 5 to 4,000mAh on the Flip 6 and 4,300mAh on the Flip 7. The Fold 8 Ultra, which succeeds the Fold 7, gets a boost from 4,000mAh to 5,000mAh.
A separate leak also points to a major display upgrade for Samsung’s top-tier foldable. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra reportedly features a foldable panel capable of reaching brightness of 3,600 nits. If true, that would surpass even the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which boasts 2,600 nits of brightness, making it Samsung’s brightest smartphone display yet.
Note that peak brightness figures are typically measured under specific HDR conditions rather than during everyday use. However, the increase could improve HDR content, outdoor visibility, and overall display performance in challenging lighting conditions.
As with all early leaks, we advise you to treat these specs with a healthy dose of skepticism until official. However, you can safely assume that the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Fold 8, and Fold 8 Ultra will bring meaningful upgrades across several areas.
