New Galaxy S27 Leak Brings Disappointing Camera News

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S27 is increasingly shaping up to be a modest year-over-year upgrade. While previous leaks have already hinted at minimal hardware changes, a new rumor confirms earlier rumors that the company doesn’t plan any major camera upgrades either. The device could reuse the same camera sensors from the past several years.

Galaxy S27 could come without new camera hardware

According to a trusted industry insider, the Galaxy S27 could retain the same primary, ultrawide, and telephoto camera sensors used on recent base Galaxy S devices. While Samsung has made improvements to image processing, AI photography features, and camera software over the years, the underlying sensor hardware may remain unchanged.

If the claim proves accurate, it would mark the sixth consecutive year without a significant camera sensor change for Samsung’s standard Galaxy S model. For the past several generations, the company has relied on refining image quality through computational photography rather than introducing new camera sensors every year, and it could continue to do so in 2027 as well.

Of course, keeping the same sensors doesn’t necessarily mean identical photo quality. Camera sensors have matured to the point where software processing often plays a bigger role in image quality than incremental hardware upgrades. Smartphone makers can extract noticeable improvements from existing hardware through upgraded chipsets, better image signal processors (ISP), and more advanced AI-based image processing.

However, there is only so much computational photography and AI can achieve when the underlying hardware remains unchanged for years. If Samsung is indeed sticking with the same sensor for a sixth consecutive generation, some prospective Galaxy S27 buyers may question whether software improvements alone are enough to keep pace with the competition.

As with all early leaks, this information should be treated with skepticism until more sources corroborate the claim. The Galaxy S27 series is still a long way from launch, and Samsung’s plans could change during development. The new flagships will go official in the first quarter of 2027.
