PSA: Spotify To Remove Username Logins Starting September 2026

Spotify is making a change to how users sign in to their accounts. The company has started sending emails to subscribers, confirming that username-based logins will be removed later this year. If you still use your username to access Spotify, you’ll need to switch soon as the deadline is not far away.
Spotify will no longer support username logins from September
At the moment, Spotify allows multiple sign-in options. Users can log in with a username and password, an email and password, or through services like Google and Apple. This has made it easy for people to access their accounts in different ways over the years.
That flexibility is about to change. According to the email, Spotify will stop supporting username logins from September 1, 2026. After that, users will need to sign in using their email address or a connected account. The change is simple, but some users may need to update their details.
Here’s the full email sent to subscribers:
“We’re making a change to how you log in to Spotify. Starting September 1, 2026, you’ll no longer be able to log in with your username. Instead, you can log in with your email.
Prefer to use a different email? You can change it in your account settings, or by tapping on the button below.”
Spotify is also reminding users that they can change their email address if needed. This can be done through account settings. It’s a good idea to check that your email is active and accessible, especially if you created your account a long time ago.
