Galaxy Watch Users Flag Battery Drain, Point to Google Play Services

It looks like several Galaxy Watch users are seeing a sudden drop in battery life lately. Affected users say Google Play Services may be the culprit behind the issue. Neither Google nor Samsung has acknowledged the problem yet, leaving users frustrated.

Several Galaxy Watch models are hit with a battery drain issue

The battery drain issue appears to hit a bunch of Galaxy Watch models, including the Galaxy Watch 7, Watch 6 Classic, Watch 8 Classic, and Watch Ultra 2025. A user recently took to Reddit to spotlight the issue, saying their watch battery has become much worse than before. The user also questioned why Google Play Services is using so much battery.

The post quickly got attention, with many others confirming they are experiencing the same problem. While some users say a recent software update caused it, others are encountering the issue without installing any update. This suggests the problem triggers through a server-side change or a background update to system components (as users are pointing out).

A Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 user says, “My ultra was going strong for 4 days without AOD. Now barely 2 days. Play service is draining like crazy.” Meanwhile, a Watch 7 owner says Google Play Services accounts for more than 10% of total battery usage. Since this Android component can update automatically, it may bring some tweaks without users noticing.

The good news is that some common troubleshooting steps may help lower battery drain. You can try clearing the cache and storage for Google Play Services. Some users also say that a quick restart fixes the issue, though it usually only works for a short time. If the problem persists, you may also go for a full reset.

So far, Samsung has not said anything regarding the battery drain issue. Since Google manages the Play Services, the Korean firm may need to coordinate with them to fix the issue. We’ll let you know if the next software update includes a patch for the problem.
